January 10, 2011
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. --- The Source for Educational Empowerment and Community Development (SEED) Institute is pleased to announce our First Annual Indigenous Well Being Conference which is slated for April 25-28, 2011 at the Embassy Suites Hotel and Spa. The conference is based on an indigenous well-being model that was developed by Dr. Shawn Secatero which incorporates spiritual, mental, social, and physical well-being factors in a former dissertation study on college success factors.
The inaugural conference theme is “Planting our SEED of Knowledge: Our Sacred Roots of Healing and Well Being.”The conference will consist of highly respectable keynote speakers such as James O’Dea (Social Healing Project), Krishna Madappa (institute of Science, Spirituality & Sustainability), Mona Polacca (13 Indigenous Grandmothers), and Dr. Sandra Begay-Campbell (Sandia National Labs). Also, the conference will feature paper presentations, hands-on workshops, a traditional talent night, and a mini-film dialogue. Conference participants will have the opportunity to work in small family or clan groups to address well-being pillars. The ultimate goal for participants is tocreate a personal well-being symbol that would assist in their overall development which includes identifying resources, challenges, and plan of action.
The conference is open to the general public including educators, community based workers, spiritual elders, college students, and professionals. The SEED Institute is a non-profit 501c3 organization that is dedicated to bridging indigenous knowledge with scientific ways of thought. The Well Being conference is co-sponsored by the Striking Eagle Project which addresses spiritual, mental, social, and physical well being pillars in life. SEED is currently offering special conference registration rates, lodging, and airline discounts.
